DIGBY, N.S. – If the winter is feeling a bit too dark and gloomy, Roof Hound has brewed up an event designed to brighten up one evening this month.

Roof Hound Brewing Co. will host the first ever South West Nova Craft Beer Tasting Night on Jan. 24. Jennifer Barr, co-owner of Roof Hound, said the event will bring together five local microbreweries and will offer those who attend a beer tasting, an appetizer and live music.

“We thought this would be a really cool idea, to bring together the breweries that are close by and let people know what we each have to offer,” Barr said.

Besides Roof Hound, the participating breweries include Lazy Bear Brewing, Heritage Brewing Co., Lunn's Mill Beer Company, and Annapolis Brewing Company.

“We’re all very supportive of each other,” Barr said. “When people stop by here, we always recommend they stop by the other breweries as well, and they all do the same for us.”

Barr added the event offers people an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone when it comes to choosing a beer.

“People tend to order the same drink every time they go somewhere, and I know that, because I often do the same thing,” Barr said. “This event offers people the opportunity to try a new beer and will also help expand people’s beer knowledge.”

Barr explained that the sample size on the sampler tray for each beer will be four ounces.

“With it being so small, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to feel bad about throwing it away,” Barr said.

But she hopes people will bring a sense of adventure to the tasting.

“I really think people could try a new sample and find a new beer love,” Barr said.

The evening also offers an introduction to the makers behind the five microbreweries, since each team will take a few minutes to introduce themselves and offer some details about their brewing business.

The ticket price includes a sampler tray of 10 different beers – two from each brewery – and an appetizer from a choice of two available. Live music will be provided by David Chamberland, and Barr said he delivers a good time.

“David lives in Bear River and he’s a pretty lively entertainer,” Barr said. “We're excited to have him here, because he really engages people.”

The event is being held on Wednesday, January 24 from 6:30 to 8:30. Tickets are $30 and a limited number are still available. To purchase, stop by Roof Hound on Ridge Road in Digby or email: roofhoundbrewing@gmail.com.
