PHOTOS AND VIDEO: Yarmouth Seafest Rum Running Races

YARMOUTH, N.S. – Well, at worst you were guaranteed a second-place finish.

The annual Seafest Rum Running Races held the evening of July 11 on the Yarmouth waterfront. The event didn't attract the number of teams it has in past years, but those who participated still had a lot of fun.

The team Rumming on Empty finished first with a time of nine minutes. The race involves rowing a dory to an island in the Yarmouth harbour, rowing back to the wharf, tieing the barrel and hoisting it up to the top of the wharf and then rushing to the finish line with the barrel.

Both teams won prizes and Seafest staff even managed to dig out a participant's shoe that had been lost in the mud when one of the barrels was retrieved during the race. So a happy ending all around.
