The Apple Tree Foundation marked 20 years of support for the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre with its annual charity golf tournament Aug. 8 at Berwick Heights Golf Course.

This year’s event, which also celebrated a 20th anniversary, was held in memory of long-time volunteer Pat Dutton who organized the foundation’s first golf tournament.

KRRC spokesperson Tarina Bambrick said Dutton, who passed away in 2013, served as a board member for 15-plus years.

“Pat was always very focused on people’s abilities, not their disabilities.”

The tournament, one of the longest running charity golf events in the Valley, drew 35 teams. Proceeds benefit the foundation, which raises funds that support and enhance the quality of life for KRRC residents. This year funds raised will be dedicated to the purchase of a new, customized wheelchair accessible van. The foundation provided $50,000 of the van’s overall $65,000 cost.
