(Editor’s Note: Remarks prepared by Queen Annapolisa Caitlin Bridson-Pateman in advance of the 2014 Queen Annapolis Royal leadership competition that takes place during the Annapolis Royal and District Natal Days celebrations August 1 to 4.)
“Another year has flown by, and it is time again for what some might call “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” here in Annapolis Royal; a time when family, friends, loved ones, and strangers (who will soon become friends) come together to partake in the much anticipated Natal Day Celebrations. This year’s theme, History in the Making, encompasses so much of what this town has to offer throughout the Natal Day weekend. The Grand Street Parade, Coronation Ceremony, Fireworks, and the Teddy Bear Tea were always some of the events that I looked forward to watching and participating in throughout my childhood here in Annapolis Royal. These events helped shape the person that I have become with the memories they have given me, and I feel will continue to shape the lives of others who get to experience this special weekend, making a history of their own to share with others in the future.
“This last year has been amazing in every way. It still feels like yesterday that I was crowned Queen Annapolis Royal 2013 on that beautiful Sunday evening. In last year’s Natal Day weekend alone I grew so much as a person and that personal growth did not stop there. Throughout the past year I have continued to grow to be a more thoughtful, honest, caring person who is more appreciative everyday of you, the people of Annapolis Royal. The support that this town has given me in the last year is overwhelming and I am so thankful for that love and support which I have received throughout this journey. I truly believe that if it were not for the hardworking volunteers of events like Natal Days, loved ones, and even the people who smile and wave at events I would not have been so successful in my personal growth as well as in the Apple Blossom Competition. I can say with sincerity that the people of this town were a large reason why I was crowned Queen Annapolisa the 82nd.
“To the new Natal Day Princesses: cherish every moment of this weekend. Laugh, learn, and most importantly, have fun! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you will never forget. You will not only grow as individuals, but you will also make lasting friendships, life-long memories, and most importantly become strong young women and leaders in your community.
“I hope that everyone enjoys the Natal Days festivities this year and makes memories they will never forget. Good luck to all the participants and thank you to all the hardworking people who make these celebrations possible. Whether this is your first time attending Natal Day Weekend or this is your 50th year, I hope that this experience becomes part of your History in the Making!”
