The parade capped off Berwick Gala Days, which ran this year from Aug. 29 to Sept.3 and featured two dozen official events. Organized by a committee of volunteers with the support of the town’s recreation department, Gala Days events draw approximately 12,000 people to the Berwick area each year.

The first Berwick Gala Day in 1945 was sponsored by the Berwick Amateur Athletic Association with the goal of raising funds to improve Rainforth Park. The community focus of Gala Days remains to this day with all of the money raised going to support youth groups in Berwick and the surrounding area. Although this year’s official total has yet to be tallied, more than $11,000 raised through Gala Days events went back to area youth groups last year.
