This year’s Apple Blossom Duck Race, scheduled for June 1, marks the 19th year the event has been held.

The duck race has become a notable part of the Apple Blossom Festival weekend. It features two exciting races: the family race, which features little yellow duckies, and the corporate race, which involves decorated duck decoys.

Chairman Don Wells promises plenty of family fun this year, including entertainment and a barbecue. The first race is set for 1 p.m. at the Gaspereau Canal, with the family race taking place at 2 p.m.

This year’s grand prize winner will receive two Aeroplan tickets for any destination in Canada and $1,000 in spending money. Other prizes are an Acadia family facility pass and $500 spending sprees at County Fair Mall, County Country and Cochrane’s Pharmasave.

Prize sponsor this year is the Blomidon Inn of Wolfville and other sponsors include Nova Scotia Power, Scotiabank, AVR/Magic and TC•Media.

Family tickets are $5 each and corporate tickets cost $100. The grand corporate prize is a dinner at the Blomidon Inn and a wine tour for eight.

The Apple Blossom Duck Race is the principal fundraising activity of the Rotary Club of Wolfville, and an important fundraiser for the Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley.
