Trivia was a challenge for competitors participating in the 9th annual Trivia Challenge at St. Mary’s Bay Academy Saturday night.

Over 150 participants from Digby to Yarmouth made up the 26 teams vying for the top prize of a pot of lobsters and the Trivia Challenge trophy.

The Weymouth Mercgents claimed the trophy with 313 points, Trivial Recruits took second with a score of 291 and Partial Recall finished third with 285 points.

SMBA teacher Andreena Teed, who made up the questions in the 14 categories, said they featured a lot of Canadian content, considering the Olympics and National Flag Day.

Principal Janece McNutt said the annual event has gained a great deal of popularity with many returning and new teams that involved many students and staff.

“This is the only full school-based fundraiser and the local sponsorship and participation is amazing,” said McNutt. “It’s a night of socialization, friendly competition and a way to connect with the community.”

McNutt said funds raised from the Trivia Challenge go towards student activities and events, including sports and student presentations.

Diana Mullen from Havelock and her son Chris Mullen from Weymouth have competed in all nine Challenges with four of the years in a top-three finish.

“It’s a great night to get together, have some fun and challenge ourselves on a very good range of questions while helping out our students at SMBA,” said Diana Mullen.
