The meeting’s agenda includes the appointment of executive and board members for the coming year.
Neil Rogers will become the chamber’s new president, succeeding Chris Atwood, who has held the post the past two years (and who also held it a decade or so ago).
“I think the chamber is moving in a very positive direction,” Atwood said. “Matt Trask, as our executive director, has been doing a fabulous job in helping the chamber grow its membership.”
More people seem interested in joining the chamber, Atwood said. And among existing members, he said, there seems to be more interest in becoming involved at the board level.
“That’s really good, to see those kinds of things taking place,” he said.
Don Bureaux, president of the Nova Scotia Community College, will be guest speaker for the AGM.
Bureaux – who spoke to the Yarmouth chamber a few years ago – has been NSCC president since 2011. Prior to becoming the college’s president, he served as vice-president (academic) and vice-president (people and planning) for the NSCC.
Bureaux has served in many academic leadership roles throughout his career. He has collaborated with educational leaders across North America, Europe and Asia in fostering entrepreneurship and connecting communities to industries.
He is a chartered professional accountant, certified general accountant and holds an international designation as a certified business counsellor through Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
In 2015 and 2016, Atlantic Business magazine named him one of the 50 top CEOs.
