Once again, the spotlight shone on the local business community as the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce presented its business awards for 2017.
Businesses from a variety of sectors were honoured during the chamber’s 12th annual awards ceremony, which was held at the Rodd Grand Hotel.
The ceremony – the chamber’s biggest yearly event, always with a big turnout – featured nine award categories.
There were 95 nominations all told.
The following is a look at this year’s award recipients:
Business of the year (10 or fewer employees) – Honey Bee Ice Cream Parlour, Sonia Park and Troy Lawrence. (There were 12 nominees in this category.)
Business of the year (11 or more employees) – McDonald’s Yarmouth, Todd Shea. (There were nine nominees for this award.)
Young entrepreneur of the year – Dean Pearce, East Coast Scaffolding. (Five nominees)
Employee of the year – Samantha Comeau, Yarmouth Cleaning Ladies. (Six nominees)
Community impact award – The Co-operators Insurance. (13 nominees)
Customer service award – Jake’s Family Restaurant, Joe Habib (25 nominees).
Rising star of the year – Adam Randall, East Roofing (eight nominees).
Export achievement award – Captain’s Choice Lobster, Dennis d’Entremont (five nominees).
Boss of the year – Jennifer White, White Perkins Associates (seven nominees).
