LIVERPOOL – If you are craving a trip to Italy, you need only come to Lane’s Privateer Inn in Liverpool on March 10.

Inn proprietor and sommelier, Susan Lane, will take guests on a gastronomic journey through Italy, highlighting her favourite wine regions and pairing each wine with regional dishes.

“Italy is one of my favourite places on earth,” says Lane. “I have had the pleasure of visiting three times and yearn to return.”

This is not the first regional wine and food pairing event held at the Inn. Lane’s holds similar events a few times each year. In the past, they have featured Spanish, French, Italian and Nova Scotian-themed nights. Italian, however, is Lane’s favourite.

Lanes says she loves the wine and food culture there and how wine is food. A meal without wine is incomplete, she says. Regional wines pair so naturally with the foods from the same area, she adds.

On Saturday, March 10, wine and food lovers will have the change to be transported to Italy with an Italian themed night at Lane’s Privateer Inn in Liverpool. Guests will be taken on a gastronomic journey through Italy, learning about wine regions and pairing each wine with regional dishes.

During the evening, there will be six wines and six small plates served, allowing guests to sample, pair and compare. Samples will include Prosecco, Borolo and Chianti wines, to name a few.

As a general tip for pairing local wines with Italian food, Lane says tomato-based pizza and pastas pair naturally with Chiantis. Nova Scotia white wines, such as Muscat and several Tidal Bay varieties, are wonderful wine pairings with seafood pasta and calamari, she adds.

“I always hope that everyone learns something new, tries a wine that they have never had before and leaves feeling comfortable with choosing a wine to pair with their next meal,” she says.

Most of all, she hopes that guests have a great time enjoying food and wine.

Tickets are $49 each and reservations are required by phoning 902 354 3456.
