YARMOUTH - The town is all abuzz. Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, blockbuster stars in The Lighthouse, now in production at Cape Forchu, will soon be here.
Or.... maybe they're aready here...
Somewhere.
What businesses and local icons will they visit? Will they be in disguise?
Gary Kent, chef at Perky Owl Café on Main Street, says he knows how to identify actors, especially male ones.
“They have shoes that I’m sure were handmade in faraway places. They really stand out. It’s probably because these people travel the world,” he said.
He added that he’s particularly interested in meeting Dafoe.
“Willem Dafoe, if he comes in here I’m going to ask to see his thumbs. One of the best shows I saw him in was The English Patient. Remember? They cut his thumbs off as part of the torture because he was captured by the Nazis.”
Just down the street, Toots assistant manager Jocelyn LeBlanc says she hopes the stars stop in.
“I think it would be so cool to have a celebrity in here,” she said.
Carrie Moffatt, who was job-shadowing that day, says she’d be “so excited” because she used to watch Twilight all the time that starred Pattinson.
She pauses.
“But I’m not (that big) a fan of him anymore.”
LeBlanc says she’d share the history of the store with the celebrities.
“Some of the magazines we have for sale actually have Robert Pattinson in them, so it would be nice for him to come in here.”
At Old World Bakery and Deli, owner Nathan Bain says he hasn’t spotted them yet.
“If they want to come in they’re more than welcome to. We’re here for everybody.”
A regular customer at Emin’s Meat Market says he’s already seen the actors there.
“I was just here, hanging out. I think it was them. I can’t be certain… I’ve never seen them (in person) before,” he said.
He says they didn’t talk much, but listened as he went into his “regular spiel” about what was good there.
“I tell them: try the beef jerky, try the maple bacon, try the hams.”
He says they were wearing heavy brown canvas jackets and one “had a ball cap pulled down real low.”
Fred Emin says he hasn’t seen the actors yet but that if they tasted the jerky they’ll be back.
“Guaranteed,” he said with a smile.
At Sip Café the staff has been serving members of the film crew on almost a daily basis, but they’ve yet to see Dafoe and Pattinson.
What happens if they do?
“We’re supposed to stay calm,” said Shania Murphy, laughing.

The Lighthouse is about an aging lighthouse keeper named Old who lives in early 20th-century Maine. Directed by Robert Eggers, the thriller is an A24 project.
