Nova Scotia Community College president, Don Bureaux was the keynote speaker of the evening.
He talked about the spirit of entrepreneurship.
“We need to help reshape the story being told in Nova Scotia,” he said. “While there are hardships there is major good news.
He said the province’s future is bright. Nova Scotia has been predicted to experience the highest growth outside of Alberta in the years to come with the Irving shipbuilding contract on the horizon and big businesses like Michelin and IBM seeing success in the province.
Awards were handed out during the gala to Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion (SASI), Clearwater Seafoods and Darren Hudson’s Wild Axe Productions.
SASI took home the Excellence in Community Development and the award was accepted by director Heath Spencer.
“This is for the clients of SASI,” he said.
Clearwater Seafoods took home the title of Exporter of the year and Darren Hudson’s Wild Axe Productions was the recipient of the Innovation in Business award.
