Nominees wanted for Shelburne County business awards

This fall will mark the return of an awards ceremony in Shelburne County that recognizes businesses and community organizations committed to excellence in exporting, innovation and community leadership.

The event will take place on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Sandy Point Lighthouse Community Centre. 

Don Bureaux, president of the Nova Scotia Community College will be the keynote speaker.

There will also be a dinner at the awards ceremony.

Nominations will be accepted until noon on Sept. 22 for three awards: Exporter of the Year will recognize a business that has demonstrated excellence in exporting outside of Canada, has achieved noticeable growth as a result of entering the global marketplace and has mad a significant contribution to the growth of Shelburne County’s economy. 

Innovation in Business will recognize a business that has demonstrated innovative leadership through the use of technology, the development of new or value added products and services, improved productivity and have gained a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Excellence in Community Development will recognize a community organization or social enterprise that has made significant and notable contributions to their community (cultural, social, environmental and or economic. And that serves as a catalyst for positive action, exhibiting the highest standards of leadership.

“We are very pleased with the return of these awards of excellence that honour the valuable contributions that businesses, organizations and social enterprises make in our community,” said Dixie Redmond, executive director for Shelburne CBDC.  “(We) are pleased to be partnering with municipal governments, the Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia Business Inc. and other economic development organizations to recognize excellence in exporting, innovation and community leadership.”
