J’s Card Hobbies on Commercial Street in Middleton stocks a huge variety of Pokémon and Magic the Gathering singles as well as hockey cards and other collectible games.

“I like trading cards so much I thought, ‘Why not see if I can make a living at it’,” said Walsh, owner/operator of J’s Card Hobbies, which opened its doors on Commercial Street in late July.
Walsh has been playing and collecting trading cards for over 10 years and has a wealth of experience hosting Magic the Gathering and Pokémon tournaments and teaching people to play, says J’s Card Hobbies is “ready to host the only Pokémon League in the Annapolis Valley.”
The Saturday Pokémon League is “a get together where kids can play and trade Pokémon cards. It’s free to enter and they can win prizes for participating,” said Walsh.
“There’s quite a few kids into it. The Pokémon League events will be good to bring our community closer together.”
Magic the Gathering is another trading card game that is a bit more in-depth than Pokémon, said Walsh.
“It is the largest trading card game in the world,” he said, adding that he plans to host Magic the Gathering tournaments every Friday night.
“I’m trying to make it a place for people to get together, forget about their worries, relax and have fun for a few hours,” said Walsh. “Once I get the word out, I hope it will draw more people.”
Besides hosting trading card events, Walsh stocks a huge variety of Pokémon and Magic the Gathering single cards, as well as hockey cards and other collectible games.
“I’m going to diversify a bit more once I find out what people are interested in,” he said.
J’s Card Hobbies also offers discounts of five to 10 per cent to any Canadian Armed Forces member or veteran to recognize their service to their country, something Walsh said he is proud to do.
Collecting and playing trading cards is “an enjoyable hobby,” added Walsh.
