“Ice cream makes people happy,” she said, standing in the cozy ice cream shop she owns and operates on Main Street in Canning.

“When it’s hot, people want ice cream,” she said.
Granger, originally from Toronto, moved to Canning from Yarmouth 11 years ago. She fell in love with Nova Scotia while visiting the province on vacation 20 years ago. Fast-forward two decades and Granger is heavily immersed in her community as a business owner and president of the Canning and Area Business Development Association.
“I wanted to use what I knew to help my own community benefit,” she said, noting that her work experience includes 25 years in public relations,
Granger strives to create a ripple effect of happiness that starts at her shop and follows customers as they continue on with their day. It’s the kind gestures that seem almost automatic and sense of security that stood out to Granger when she first visited Nova Scotia, and she hopes to help tourists passing through Canning en route to such popular destinations as Kingsport, the look-off and Cape Split experience this.
“Happiness is something that… people feel in a small place and small gestures mean something,” she said.

As for her own decision to become a small business owner, Granger is proud to operate a mom and pop shop in a day when big-box stores are a dime a dozen.
“I love it – well worth it,” she said. “I’m spreading happy one ice cream at a time.”
