Century Casinos, Inc. announced that the company and Nova Star Cruises Ltd. have signed an exclusive agreement about casino operations on board the Nova Star ferry.
The company says it are thrilled about the opportunity to run the casino on board the Nova Star, believing it will be a popular amenity on board the vessel. Century will fully equip and operate the casino with 70 state-of-the-art slot machines, live and electronic table games, slot accounting and surveillance systems and furniture, fixtures, and fittings. The initial term of the casino concession agreement will run until October 2020.
Century Casinos, Inc. is an international casino entertainment company that owns and operates Century Casino & Hotels in Cripple Creek and Central City, Colorado, and in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the Century Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Company also operates casinos aboard 12 luxury cruise vessels (Regatta, Nautica, Marina, Riviera, Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 2, Wind Surf, Wind Star, Wind Spirit, Seven Seas Voyager, Seven Seas Mariner and Seven Seas Navigator).
Nova Star Cruises will operate a round-trip cruise ferry service connecting Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The service is scheduled to start May 1. The project has the full support of the province of Nova Scotia, which pledged $21 million over seven years to restart the ferry service.
Most recently the province said $2 million of that money would go to a reserve to satisfy American regulations for having money on hand to reimburse passengers in the event of ticket cancellations. Until this matter had been resolved, Nova Star was unable to advertise its fares or begin taking reservations. It says it will be in a position to start doing this soon.
Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine) a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, built and owns the vessel and is also a 10% shareholder in Nova Star Cruises.
The Nova Star has a capacity of 1,215 passengers and 336 vehicles. Amenities will include luxury cabins, fine dining, a casino, showroom, duty free shopping, conference center, spa and fitness areas and an art gallery.
