The Kids Help Phone Designer Showcase began in 1997 and to date has designed eight houses throughout Halifax.
Through the showcase, a homeowner donates a house, which a design team then goes into for design approvals and to start “gutting” the rooms.
After the design process is complete, the house goes on display with all proceeds going towards the Kids Help Phone.
Erin Doggett of Liverpool first experienced a designer showcase as part of a design course she was taking in Halifax.
“I was really intrigued by the fact that it was a great opportunity to showcase your own work and at the same time you’re helping out a fantastic fundraiser,” she says.
After the tour was complete she was inspired to get involved and in 2005 Doggett jumped on board with the Kids Help Phone and volunteered to design a children’s playroom.
The Kids Help Phone Designer Showcase did not take place in 2006 but this year Doggett had an opportunity to design another room.
This year’s house on Young Avenue had 29 design spaces available and Doggett designed the den area.
Designers had six weeks to complete their project. Liverpool area businesses donated materials to the project.
The Kids Help Phone was established in 1989. They receive calls and online questions every year from almost 3,000 Canadian communities.
Doggett says this fundraiser benefits children and youth, which is her driving force, to be able to help out.
The house at 871 Young Avenue is on display from May 4 until June 24 and tickets can be purchased in Liverpool by calling 350-2977.
Doggett has recently moved back to Liverpool to start a design business called M-bellish Designs.
She says she does just about everything, including colour consultations and furniture arrangement.
