Cars damaged in hit-and-run
A Yarmouth County couple whose two motor vehicles were badly damaged in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend hopes anyone with information about it will contact the police.
The incident took place early Easter morning, between 12:30 and 3 a.m. or so, said Surette’s Island resident Sam Saulnier, who indicated Monday that both cars had been “totalled.”
The impact of the collision drove one of the cars over the other and into the ditch, she said.
Given the nature of the damage, the vehicles must have been hit by a truck, she said.
She also figures whatever hit the cars likely sustained a good deal of damage too.
The Saulniers live across from the Surette’s Island social club.
Her husband Jim discovered the damaged vehicles around 3:30 in the morning when he looked outside to see what the weather was like.
Neither she nor her husband heard anything and while she said her daughter heard a bang, she added that the youngster believed it to be the Easter bunny slamming the door.
Reflecting on the situation Monday morning, she said they would be getting a rental car but added that she and her husband would have to figure out how to accommodate their different work schedules with just one vehicle instead of two.
The incident had left them with “a sinking feeling,” she said.
The RCMP are investigating.
