Grass fire season again
What good do grass fires do? Other than committing a criminal offence, running around setting fires, it keeps the fire department on the run.

Many volunteers need to leave their jobs, equipment is on the move, there is an increased chance of accidents and leaves less equipment on stand by in case of multiple calls. Stating that grass fires really do no good, what people do not take into consideration is that a nearby structure and not necessarily one belonging to the arsonist can be quickly destroyed.

EASTER EGG HUNT AT FFM

From April 2 to 5, from 9 a.m.A.M. to 4 p.m. the Firefighters’ Museum’s version of an Easter egg hunt will take place. Free admission to the museum will entitle both young and old to find as many eggs as possible giving them a chance to win an Easter basket filled with goodies. A fun time for the whole family and an excellent chance to see the equipment, pictures, etc. in the museum.

FINANCIAL HELP FORTHCOMING

Through the efforts of Argyle M.L.A. Chris d’Entremont he has obtained a $25,000 grant to help rebuild the Surette’s Island fire hall. The structure was badly damaged as were several vehicles and other equipment. A lot of work by the volunteer members, the community and other fire departments has gotten the department back in business.

SMOKE DETECTOR RECALL

Digital Security Controls FSA and FSB series smoke detectors are being recalled as it has been determined they could fail to reliably detect smoke during a fire. These detectors are of a series photo-electric type and are wired directly in to the building circuitry and do not use a battery. The dome shaped units have a metal mesh covering around the smoke sensor.
