Freelance writing workshop rescheduled
Jodi DeLong to instruct daylong Middleton event
A writing workshop cancelled on March 17 at Macdonald Museum in Middleton is rescheduled for March 31.
Aspiring freelance writers can learn from established writer Jodi DeLong when a new writers' group hosts the day-long workshop. DeLong, author and freelancer , is from Scotts Bay, Kings County.
DeLong will be on hand to share her experiences on breaking into the freelance market and writing for fun and profit. The rescheduled workshop is set for March 31 at Macdonald Museum and runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.
The workshop will focus on writing stories and articles for publication in magazines and newspapers and is for those who want to write occasionaly or who want to work at freelancing more intensely. DeLong will detail what it takes to get published and advises to bring a pen and paper.
Topics to be covered include practicing the art of interviewing, how to figure out what editors want, how to write a query letter, and much more. Registrants will be given some pre-class homework to do that will help DeLong know their interests so she can give some personal feedback.
DeLong has writen about a range of subjects, from gardening to volunteer firefighters and from spinning wool to sailing with the Coast Guard. She has regular columns and features in Saltscape magazine, Rural Delivery magazine, The Chronicle Herald, and others.
DeLong's first book, The Atlantic Gardener's Greenbook, was published in 2005 and she is currently working on a second book, also about gardening.
