Although discussions were held about taking their event to Bridgewater, Rockin’ On The Mersey Committee Chair, Geno Wong thought it would be a big loss for Queens County.
Bobby Curtola’s World Music Hall of Fame’s Rockin’ On The Mersey was originally scheduled for the July 1 weekend but has now been moved to August 24–26.
“The date was changed because we felt there was too much going on economically in a one week period,” he explained.
There has been gossip they are trying to take over SeaFest, but “we’re not,” he said.
Wong hopes the new date is permanent and guarantees the weekend to be interesting.
August 24 will kick off the weekend with a bluegrass/country music concert with performances by Ray St. Germain and the Spinney Brothers.
Bobby Curtola and his band will perform on August 25 and there will be a magic show for children that day as well.
August 26 will have performances from gospel groups coming from Chicago as well as a fire works display, Wong said.
He also mentioned there would be inflatable rides for children and a car show that would include Elvis Presley’s pink Cadillac.
This event will be held under the biggest tent in Canada, which is 100 x 300 feet.
“The tent will hold about 3,000 people,” Wong said.
The Rockin’ on the Mersey event will have DJ legend Frank Cameron as the weekend’s emcee.
This event is pretty well sponsored, Wong said, at no cost to the region.
Money raised will be distributed to charitable organizations, he added.
Ticket prices have not been decided yet.
