MVA, property and criminal offenses
Windermere resident Charles Andrew Freeman, 26, pleaded guilty March 6 to driving without the required liability insurance, driving without a license and driving a vehicle the permit for which had expired, all contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act.
Freeman had pleaded guilty Jan. 22 to entering a premises when prohibited by notice, contrary to the Protection of Property Act, and causing damage to a car, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Judge MacDonald find Freeman $500 for the insurance offense and $100 each for the other MVA and property offenses. She fined the accused $200 or three days in custody on willful default for the vehicle damage.
Freeman committed the three MVA offenses in Berwick Jan. 30; the property offense in Berwick Aug. 19; and the property damage Berwick Nov. 20.
Drove with no license
Cambridge resident Raymond John Charbonneau, 43, pleaded guilty March 5 to driving without a license, for the second offense, contrary to the Motor Vehicles Act.
Judge MacDonald fined Charbonneau $300 plus a $45 victim surcharge and $100 in costs.
Charbonneau committed the offense in South Berwick Nov. 27.
Received conditional discharge
Judge MacDonald granted a conditional discharge March 7 to Middleton resident Brandi Anne Veinot, 23, on two charges of theft, two charges of failing to attend court as ordered, and possession of stolen property.
The discharge is pending one-year probation, the conditions of which include Veinot not associating with those with criminal or drug-related records, and not possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages and/ or non-medically prescribed drugs.
Police laid the charges in connection with incidents in Greenwood April 8, 2005, Jan. 20, 2006, and Sept. 27, 2006, and in Kentville, March 20, 2005 and Aug. 2, 2006.
Break-in suspects back in April
The three suspects facing 14 break and entry charges relating to incidents in Coldbrook Dec. 14 will be back in court April 2 for election and plea.
The three – a 20-year-old Woodville resident, an 18-year-old Coldbrook resident and an 18-year-old Canard man - appeared in court March 5.
MLA to trial in May
Counsel Andrew Waterbury pleaded not guilty March 5 on behalf of Kings West MLA Leo Glavine, 58, on two charges of commencing construction without a permit, contrary to the Nova Scotia Building Code Act.
Judge MacDonald scheduled the trail for May 2. It will take place jointly with that of another person on the same charges.
The violations are alleged to have taken place at a Marshall Road, Kingston property between April 4 and Dec. 20, 2006.
Committed assault, damaged property
The court has handed Bruce Dwayne Ward, 31, Kingston; a suspended sentence with a term of probation for committing an assault on an individual and for willfully damaging the property of an individual to a value not exceeding $5,000.
Ward entered guilty pleas to the charges Jan. 29, 2007. The matters were adjourned to Feb. 28 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Ward was handed a suspended sentence with one year of probation Feb. 28. He has been ordered to pay $790 in restitution in relation to the property damage by Aug. 28, 2007.
Ward committed the offences in Waterville Dec. 16, 2006.
Fined for motor vehicle offences
The court has fined Michael Anthony Brown, 29, New Minas, for operating a motor vehicle on a highway while disqualified from doing so by reason of the revocation of his privilege of obtaining a drivers’ license; driving a motor vehicle required to be registered under the Motor Vehicle Act when there was not a valid liability policy in place in relation to either the driver or the vehicle; and for operating an unregistered vehicle.
Brown entered guilty pleas to the three charges March 12, 2007. He was fined $250 for driving while disqualified, $350 for driving without insurance and $50 for operating and unregistered vehicle.
Brown committed the offences in Coldbrook Jan. 29, 2007.
Drove while disqualified
The court has fined Stephen Joseph Cormier, 41, Kingston, for operating a motor vehicle while disqualified from doing so.
Cormier entered a guilty plea to the charge March 12, 2007. He was fined a total of $862.50 and has been given until Aug. 27, 2007 to pay or spend 11 days in custody on willful default.
Cormier committed the offence at 14 Wing Greenwood on Feb. 5, 2007.
Fined for stealing property
The court has fined Marcus Robert Waldo Manthorne, 32, Auburn, for stealing the property of an individual of a value not exceeding $5,000.
Manthorne entered a guilty plea to the charge March 12, 2007. He was fined a total of $230 and has been given until June 25, 2007 to pay or spend four days in custody on willful default.
Manthorne committed the offence in Auburn between Dec. 7 and Dec. 11, 2006.
Drove without insurance
The court has fined Xiaoming Cai, 24, Wolfville, for driving a motor vehicle without a motor vehicle liability policy.
Cai entered a guilty plea to the charge March 12, 2007 and was fined a total of $1,250. Cai has been given until March 12, 2008 to pay the fine with no default.
The offence was committed in Wolfville Feb. 4, 2007.
In other court matters
The court has fined Justin Lee Caldwell, 19, Kentville, for illegally possessing liquor.
Caldwell entered a guilty plea to the charge March 12, 2007. He was fined a total of $445 and has been given until March 12, 2008 to pay with no default.
Caldwell committed the offence in Kentville Jan. 5, 2007.

The court fined Karen Joy Dorey, 39, Kentville, for allowing her dog to run at large.
Dorey entered a guilty plea to the charge Feb. 26. She was fined a total of $50 with no default. She was ordered to pay the fine Feb. 26.
Dorey committed the offence in Kentville Jan. 21, 2007 when, being the owner of a dog in the Town of Kentville, she permitted the dog to run at large, contrary to town bylaws.

The court has fined Bradley Phillip Bruce, 26, Greenwood; for being intoxicated in a public place.
Bruce entered a not guilty plea to the charge Nov. 20, 2006 and the matter was adjourned to Feb. 27 for trial. However, Bruce changed his plea to guilty prior to the scheduled trial Feb. 27. He was fined a total of $111.50 and has been given until March 26, 2007 to pay with no default.
Bruce committed the offence in Greenwood Oct. 1, 2006.

The court has fined Nathan Harry Johnson, 20, Lakeville; for being intoxicated in a public place.
Johnson entered a not guilty plea to the charge Nov. 27, 2006. The matter was adjourned to Feb. 28 for trial. However, Johnson changed his plea to guilty prior to the scheduled trial Feb. 28.
Johnson was fined a total of $111.50 and has been given until Aug. 27, 2007 to pay with no default.
Johnson committed the offence in Berwick Oct. 13, 2006.
