Council expresses policing concerns
We have all drove above the speed limit at some point and probably breathed a sigh of relief for not getting caught, but now the Queens RCMP have been asked to make it stop, specifically in certain areas.
During the council meeting on Feb. 19 councillors expressed their concerns to Staff Sergeant Bruno Deveau in hopes that the Queens RCMP can do something about them.
The issues discussed include, vandalism, especially on the waterfront area, traffic violations, speeding and noise complaints and parking violations.
Speeding is a problem in many areas but a few places the RCMP will focus their attention on include George Street, where there have been speeding and noise complaints and Greenfield Highway number 210.
Staff Sergeant Deveau also wants to reinforce to the general public that there is a 30km/h speed zone sign on Old Falls Road in Liverpool and that drivers cannot enter that road from Highway 8.
Drivers also need to be aware that parking too close to an intersection can cause an obstruction of traffic and the Motor Vehicle Act says you cannot park within 7.5 metres from the intersection of curb lines.
If curb lines are not present than you must park within five metres of the intersection of property lines at an intersection within a business or residence district.
In an effort to correct these concerns Staff Sergeant Deveau says he has assigned tasks to individual RCMP members to look after these issues.
The vandalism issue has been identified by not only by council but also by the RCMP and they will be putting an action plan together to fight that or hopefully bring the level of vandalism to a minimum, Staff Sergeant Deveau explained.
Drivers must be aware that the Queens RCMP will be increasing their presence in locations mentioned and charges will be laid if you violate a Motor Vehicle Act, Staff Sergeant Deveau said.
