Now in its second year, Berwick’s Kid Fit program continues to offer once-weekly after school fun for elementary school students.

The group, which got its start with support from the Western Kings County Active Kids Healthy Kids fund, runs Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Berwick’s town hall gymnasium. Similar to Berwick’s Teen Fit program, Kid Fit provides an opportunity for youngsters to sample games, sports and aerobic activity in a fun atmosphere.

Donna Conrad acts as the official coordinator and sponsor for the program.

“The program is a blend of things for kids in grades one to six, says Conrad. “Aside from the activity component, it provides an environment where group and team cooperation is fostered.

She adds, the program encourages kids to be more physically active and promotes an awareness of health and well-being among the young participants. Regular weekly programming is augmented with special theme days throughout the session.

“It’s never too early for kids to learn the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and to make activity a part of a their routine, says Conrad.

A group of former Teen Fit members, all of whom are now in Grade 11, lead the program on a rotational, week-to-week basis.

The next session of Kid Fit begins Feb. 1, but intake is ongoing and new members are welcome to join before that date. The fee per session is $35, and more information can be obtained by contacting Conrad at 679-0700 or donna.conrad@ns.sympatico.ca .
