MAKE WAY FOR THE QUEENS
King’s Theatre’s upcoming fundraisers are sure to attract some royal guests.
On the evening of January 27 and the afternoon of the 28, the theatre in Annapolis Royal will be hosting a fundraising event, which includes both a film and a dress-up contest.
Starting at 7 p.m. on the 27, the theatre will open its doors for desserts and coffee prior to the showing of “The Queen – a film about the life of Queen Elizabeth II, starring Helen Mirren.
In getting into the spirit of the event, guests are encouraged to participate in the Queen look-alike contest that evening. There will be a similar event the following afternoon starting at 2 p.m., with tea and cookies offered prior to the film.
Tickets for both showings are $10. For more information, contact King’s Theatre at 532-7704.
A FRUITFUL EVENT
Once again King’s Theatre will be celebrating love and art with the fourth annual Valentine’s fundraiser to be held on February 10.
Themed “Fruit, this year’s silent art auction will feature small artworks created by local artists as well as homemade delectable desserts for guests to enjoy.
The event will also include a showing of the 1978 classic French-Italian film La Cage aux Folles, and will give guests the opportunity to dance on stage both before and after the film.
A call for art submissions is currently underway. The deadline for donations of artwork is February 2. While all media is welcome, artworks must be no larger than a square foot in size.
Submissions for the auction will be on display the week of the event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, to give bidders an early start. Guests are also encouraged to participate in the hat contest for an opportunity to win prizes, including a heart-shaped chocolate cake made by dessert chef extraordinaire, Marilyn Barkwell.
Now in its fourth year, organizer Deb Kuzyk is thrilled with the community’s response to the event and the generosity of artists who donate work to be auctioned in support of the theatre.
“50 artists are going to donate this work [to the theatre] for free, she says. “It’s a huge example of community support… It’s a theatre that belongs to [all of] us.
For more information, please contact Deb Kuzyk, Lucky Rabbit Potter at 532-0928. Admission is $12 and the event begins at 7 p.m.
