The Annapolis Region Community Arts Council has replaced the used book section at ARTsPLACE to make way for an art resource library.
The library will have a wide selection of new and used books that deal with many different art forms -- everything from books on silk-screening to pottery and visual art.
Recently, the library received The Spirituality of Art, donated by Mad Hatter Books in memory of Mym Wooler. The used books that were previously in the space have been given to a few schools in Digby Neck, Endless Shores bookstore in Bridgetown, and David’s Antiques in Upper Granville.
The main focus of the library is to make it as convenient as possible. ARCAC executive director Gene Lane says that this library is specific to the arts and has a range of books for children of all ages. He emphasizes that the library is “aimed at being accessible for everyone, though anyone wishing to loan texts must be a member of the arts council.
ARCAC would like to extend a special thanks to board members Brad Hall and Rich Cianflone, and to Gretchen Volenik, a retired librarian who has just moved to the area and has taken on the role of librarian for ARCAC.
ARCAC is currently looking for volunteers to help design and improve the library. Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact the office at 532-7069.
The grand opening of the Art Library and Resource Centre will take place on December 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the arts council, followed by Christmas Crackers XI, featuring seasonal tales read by members of the local community and musical guests, The Granville Ferry Rockers. The readings will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to the library-resource centre fund.
