Liverpool fisheries officers concerned over violations
Liverpool DFO officers have been left shaking their heads after finding several fishermen in the area with dozens of short and female lobsters with eggs.

A Brooklyn fisherman was charged last week after officers, conducting a routine check, found several short lobsters. A more detailed inspection of the catch revealed more than 30 “tinkers and several berried lobsters. He will appear in court in the New Year.

The following day, fisheries officers from Liverpool observed two fishermen carrying out two shopping bags full of lobsters near Dublin Shore. All turned out to be undersize and had been separated from the rest of the catch. Both men will appear in Bridgewater court to face fisheries charges.

All but a few of the tinkers, collected for evidence, were returned to the water.

Acting Liverpool DFO Supervisor Bill Wolfe said it was disturbing that some fishermen continue to break the law.

“While it certainly isn’t everyone, there are still people out there placing the whole industry in jeopardy, he said. “They are bringing ashore the very future of the fisheries.
