Oprah coming to Shelburne County?
There is still no word yet from talk show host and television icon Oprah Winfrey as to whether or not she will be visiting Shelburne County.
“Contact is hopeful,? said Elizabeth Cromwell, a director with the Black Loyalist Heritage Society.
The society sent a letter two years ago inviting the talk show host to visit Birchtown and the surrounding area.
It wasn’t until after a fire, caused by arson, destroyed the Birchtown office of the society that the Oprah Winfrey Show called back.
The producers of the show wanted Cromwell to organize a community invitation, in video format, asking Oprah to visit the Shelburne area.
The resulting video, supported by residents from throughout the county was Fed-Exed Oct. 20 but the producers of the show haven’t responded at this point.
“It took them two years to call back after the initial contact,? said Cromwell, “so we don’t know if or how long it will take this time.?
Members of the community have sent numerous emails to the show in order to keep it updated about the fire and other events.
