Church service was held Nov. 5 with Rev. June Keddy's message, “The Way Out.� The choir provided music, “Come To The Feast.� Gwen Huntley read the roll call of the veterans of WWI, WWII and the Korean War from Scott's Bay. Congregation individuals followed by reading the names of the Canadian soldiers that have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Joining hands, the congregation sang, “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.� Todd, Nicole, Keenan and Madison Welton donated this week's bulletin in loving memory of veteran Theodore Dykens.

As advocates, the Scott's Bay Women's Institute held a health and welfare session at the Seaside Centre November 9, raising $25 for the Cancer Society while promoting information on healthy living. Volunteers set up health-related stations. Registered nurse Gwen Huntley tested for diabetes and blood pressure and presented information on heart attacks and strokes. Karen Huntley conveyed information on breast cancer signs and symptoms and gave information on skin care and performed facials. Tammy Barkhouse talked about foot care and performed pedicures. She also spoke on the importance of taking extra care of feet for those with diabetes. Satisfied participants Sharon Lynk, director for the East Kings District W.I., said she felt beautiful following her facial and Myrna Dykens said her feet felt real good after receiving a pedicure.

Recent visitors of Helen Little were her nephews, Don Thorpe, Dallas, Texas; and Gordon Thorpe, Wolfville. Don attended church services with Helen while visiting in the Bay.

Homer and Fran Steele have returned home safety from a three-week visit with Fran's sister, Shirley Thorpe, and her brother, Albert, and his wife, Nellie, Edmonton. While there, the weather turned cold and snowy, remaining for the duration of their visit; however, the Steeles still managed to visit Fort McMurry.

Homer and Fran welcomed daughter Dale and husband John Nicolov, Sackville, N.B.; for a recent four-day visit.

Gwen and Karen Huntley, Tammy Barkhouse, Nicole Welton, Barb MacDonald, Judith Poole and Pam Benjamin all attended the anniversary luncheon of the Kentville and Area Christian Women's Club at the Old Orchard Inn. Music was by Brenda Joudrey, Halifax, and the speaker, Carolyn Martin, spoke on “Diamonds In The Ruff.� The upcoming Christmas luncheon will feature Roelina Zanting-Crooks with speaker former Bay resident Alice Martin.

The bookmobile returns to the Seaside Centre November 21, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The next jam session is scheduled for November 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the hall. Regular instrumentalists and vocalists, as well as any newcomers, will be on hand for a very enjoyable evening. Everyone is welcome to entertain - or to be entertained. Refreshments available.

Dart club update: The three highest number of games are Walter Huntley, Dean Barkhouse, and Roger Huntley. Joel Huntley has shot two 180s since the season started.

The Community Hall Association will host a community appreciation potluck supper November 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Remember When: Part 4 - During April’s 1941 meeting of the Women's Institute at Mrs. Watson's, a committee was appointed to interview trustees of the hall regarding repairs. Carol and Emily Steele were appointed to the music committee and a five-cent tea was held, receiving $1.10. Eva Steele and Mrs. Wyman Shaw joined as new members.

At May's meeting at Mrs. Alvin (Eva) Steele's, $11 was paid to Harris Thorpe for the church pulpit construction.

During June's meeting at Mrs. Nina Huntley's, a discussion was held regarding the cost of 40 cents for adults and 25 cents for children under 12 for the July 1 lobster supper.

At July’s meeting at Mrs. Bowman Steele's, a motion was made Mrs. Flora Thorpe ask Steve Tupper to mow the cemetery, sod and repair the graves. The W.I. rally was held June 12 in Habitant.

At August’s meeting in the hall, a letter of thanks was read from Mr. Vanzoost. Money from the July 1 supper totaled $96.10, with expenses of $30.10; the balance was paid to the minister, Mr. Vanzoost. Mr. Abram Jess presented the Scott's Bay W.I. with his book, “The History of Scott's Bay.� After finishing the Red Cross quilts, bride-to-be Miss Joyce Irving, betrothed schoolteacher to Rufus Purdy, was given a kitchen shower.

During September's meeting, a letter was read from Mrs. Eleanor Parson requesting $10 per member for the F.W.I.I. mobile kitchen.

At November’s meeting at Mrs. Everette Huntley's, a letter was read by Mr. James Huntley, Norwich, Conn., USA; conveying regrets. He was unable to travel to Nova Scotia with the church bell, but promised to come the following summer to place it in the church in memory of his grandparents, James and Jane Huntley. Afterwards, the ladies quilted on the Red Cross quilt.

During December's 1941 meeting at Mrs. Joe Steele's, a decision to send Christmas boxes to the ill and elderly of the community was made. Members enjoyed a tea and drew a present from the tree. Records indicate a majority of local schoolteachers joined the W.I., including: Mrs. Ross, Miss Carty, Mrs. Collins, Miss Hazel Gates, Miss Elsie Crocker, Mrs. Ronald (Bessie Steele) Taylor and Miss Balsor. The program consisted of readings by Mrs. Clarence Steele and Mrs. Russell Jess and a solo by Mrs. Albert Tupper.
