Overwhelming generosity!
Letter to The Advertiser
To the Editor:

Once again, I was amazed and overwhelmed by Nova Scotians’ generosity recently.

A family fighting the ever-increasingly common battle against cancer reluctantly allowed a few friends to organize a fundraiser for them. Right away, people and businesses stepped up with more help and support than we could have imagined.

The Greenwich Fire Department was also outstanding with much-needed advice and help anyone organizing a fundraiser for the first time needs.

Once the doors opened, an even bigger show of support started to happen. More people than we could have hoped for filled the hall and spent almost over-generously, leaving the family and organizers amazed to the point of tears!

Women in town for a bowling tournament in New Minas even showed up and added their support, and they didn’t even know the family! When the totals were added at the end of the night, over $7,000 had been raised.

There are too many people and businesses to list with an individual thank-you and even though thanks were said Saturday night, I would like to acknowledge everyone who contributed in any way.

I’m sure the family as well as the other organizers shares my heartfelt appreciation to anyone who was unable to attend or left early and didn’t get to hear the live thank-yous.

In a time when people are heading west to make their fortune, I will gladly stay here with this kind of generosity and support and feel like I have all the richness I need here at home.
