There was a nice turnout for the Annual Turkey Fuel Supper, Oct. 28. And there is a ‘thank-you’ for all those who helped in any way in making our supper such a success – all those who donated monies and food, and took the time to attend. We realized $2,761.27 after expenses. It will surely help toward fuel for the winter months.

To each one who helped at the centre all day and was part of the clean-up crew, it was nice to see such a turnout. I think there wee many dishpan hands after all was said and done. There is a big ‘thank-you’ from the fuel supper committee.

In early November, we can’t forget Nov. 11. Each year we should wear a poppy and try to attend some ceremonies wherever we are.

“They shall not grow old, as we grow old. Age shall not weary them or the years condemn. In the going down of the sun, ‘we will remember them.’

I have talked to a few people who have told me that they were out to greenwood recently to see George Canyon and get his autograph. He seems quite a celebrity now. Way to go George!

The Good Neighbour Club met at the Community Centre Nov. 2. In absence of our president, first vice Pauline Harris chaired the meeting. Our count was down this time because quite a few members were away. As well hunting season keeps a few away.

After repeating the ‘Club Ode’ and singing ‘Good Evening Neighbour,’ roll call was answered by how many trick-or-treaters a person had visit them on Halloween.

Some had none, but others had quite a few.

It’s really nice top see the little ones come to your door al dressed up. Sometimes it’s hard to guess who they are.

Those present heard and approved the minutes.

In committee reports, entertainment chairperson Kelly passed out cards telling when the Christmas party will be – Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

Each member may have a guest. Don’t forget your secret pal. Perhaps Santa will appear.

As well, for the next meeting and the Dec. 7 party, it’s asked that something be brought for the Canning Food Bank.

Flower committee chairperson Pauline reported sending out cards.

Ways and means chairperson Marilyn reported there would be two catered banquets in December. There will be more on that during the next meeting.

Ada reported what the Breakfast Club has been doing. It seems to be very successful. And the next one is 7 to 10:30 a.m., Nov. 18 at the Community Centre. There is a free-will offering. We’ll see you there, and the weather should be good for that day.

In the hall committee report, it noted hat they have ordered 50 new chairs, some small tops for tables, and some replacements for the wooden chairs. This order should arrive in the next few weeks. They also upgraded some plugs for the kitchen. As well, there is now a light behind the kitchen door by the telephone, and it will be a big help, especially when one goes out to find phone numbers. With no other business, Pauline gave out the names to contact for the next club meeting – Nov. 16. She also thanked the hostesses for the lovely lunch.

This would be the Hunter’s Groan. Marion Roode reported seeing the biggest doe deer she has ever seen – standing only 30 feet from her. She just couldn’t believe it. You don’t have to go away to see the big deer. But remember to look twice before you shoot when hunting.
