Mariners drop another, this time to Weeks Crushers

Despite having nearly double the shots on net, and a rush during the final two minutes of the game, the Yarmouth Mariners weren’t able to crush the Weeks Crushers in a home game at the Mariners Centre Saturday night.

Yarmouth dropped the game to the Pictou County team by a score of 6-5.

Georges d’Entremont led the scoring for the Yarmouth squad with two goals and one assist. Bobby MacMann, Josh Wood and Todd Ballah each scored one goal.

Mariner goalie Matthew Spezza blocked 21 of 27 shots.

Kody Cuvelier, in net for Weeks, stopped 43 of 48 shots on net.

The Mariners play the Weeks Crushers again Sunday afternoon and could badly use the win.

Following Saturday night’s play, the Mariners find themselves way down in the bottom of the basement of the Maurice Bent Division with nine points. The Weeks Crushers improved to 18 points with their win. The Antigonish Bulldogs lead the division with 26 points.

Only the top five teams in the division will make the playoffs and Yarmouth has a lot of ground to make up.

Of the 12 teams in the league, the only other team in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League with a worse record than the Mariners is the Charlottetown Abbies who only have four points.
