They’re not professionals and they’re not getting paid, but they can construct an entire building in just under a week.
From Oct. 18 to Oct. 22, roughly 500 volunteer Jehovah’s Witnesses put their construction skills to use.
Volunteers came from all over the Atlantic Provinces to help build the new Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, in Liverpool on Old Port Mouton Road.
Regional Building Committee member, Peter Stroud says the actual building itself will take place over two weekends. They’ll get the roof tight and a month from now come back and do the interior. He says these buildings are normally constructed in one week, but due to the time of year and weather, two construction dates were made.
Liverpool’s current Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses was built in the 1960’s or 70’s on Waterloo Street. This past
April the building was sold and right now they hold their meetings at the Lions Club Hall.
“We’re here for two full reasons, one for love for our creator, and love for the Liverpool brothers and sisters in the congregation, said Stroud.
A kitchen was set up at the construction site, and breakfast was served at 7 a.m. Stroud says volunteers were on the roof by 8 a.m.
Next month, after construction is complete, Stroud says they will have an open house and the public is invited to come and see the finished project.
