Michael Blades has captured the International Skeet Shooting Association Zone 8 Open Men’s Overall Championship for his performance at the Jack Mayer Memorial shoot in August.
Blades took top honours for High Overall (HOA), High All Around (HAA), 12 gauge, 20 gauge and .410 in the international competition.
He was also the runner-up in doubles and third in 28 gauge.
Where Zone 8 includes all of Canada and Europe, the Jack Mayer Memorial was one of numerous satellite shoots held throughout the zone for the championship. The winner was determined once all the scores were compiled.
“It’s pretty big, said Blades, who got the news earlier this month.
At the Jack Mayer, Blades shot 395/400 HOA, 494/500 HAA, 100 straight in the 12, 20 and .410, 99 in doubles and 98 in 28 gauge.
The 21-year-old Cape Sable Island marksman racked up an impressive season this year, winning silver and bronze at the World Junior Skeet Championships, capturing the Atlantic Skeet Championship, taking silver at the Quebec championships, the Target Dust title, and the overall A Class championship at the Canadian Skeet Championships where he was fifth over-all.
