From October 2 to 9. Annapolis RCMP were busy with everything from vehicles vandalized, objects thrown from overpasses, to suspected deer jacking and cows roaming the highway. Officers responded to a total of 99 calls which included eight false 911 calls, 11 false alarms, and 12 traffic matters. Here are some of the highlights.
-- Oct. 2, 8:41 p.m. Police responded to the sudden death of an 80-year-old man in Bridgetown who had died of natural causes.
-- Oct. 3, 6:06 a.m. Police received a report of a break and enter at Annapolis Basin Conference Centre in Cornwallis. A large quantity of liquor was stolen. Police have suspects and the investigation continues.
-- Oct. 3, 9:28 a.m. A Wilmot resident reported that the rear window of their car had been smashed out. The owner located a glass container with a white sticky substance in it – the suspected vandalism weapon.
-- Oct. 3, 1:39 p.m. Police assisted EHS with a man who had consumed an unknown quantity of pills. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
-- Oct. 3, 8:55 p.m. Motorists on Brooklyn Street in Middleton reported a white substance was being thrown onto cars from the Highway 101 overpass. While there were no accidents or injuries, police are treating it as a traffic hazard.
-- Oct. 3, 10:28 p.m. A motorist on Highway 101 at the Centrelea exit reported a dozen eggs had been thrown from the overpass onto their vehicle. Police treat this as a serious traffic hazard as well.
-- Oct. 4, 1:51 a.m. A Waldeck caller reported hearing gun shots and saw a car in a field. They suspected deer jacking.
-- Oct. 4, 11:48 a.m. A caller reported seeing cattle crossing back and forth across Highway 1 in Wilmot near the Big Scoop restaurant. The owner of the offending cows returned them to the farm.
-- Oct. 4, 7:26 p.m. A Belleisle caller reported hunters in the area. The hunting activity was spooking neighbouring horses.
-- Oct. 4, 8:32 p.m. A Granville Ferry caller reported the theft of an X-Box. Police have a possible suspect and the investigation continues.
-- Oct. 4, 10:10 p.m. Cows on Highway 1 at Bellisle were reported to police. A patrol was made but the animals had apparently ‘mooved’ on to greener pastures.
-- Oct. 5, 7:20 a.m. A break and enter was reported at Bridgetown Regional High School. Numerous food items were stolen, along with some cash. Two drink machines were damaged. Police have suspects and the investigation continues.
-- Oct. 5, 11:35 a.m. Police investigated a possible sexual assault against a woman in Middleton.
-- Oct. 5, 9:07 p.m. The ESSO in Bridgetown reported a ‘gas-and-go.’ The plate number was obtained. The driver of a light blue Ford Escort Wagon failed to pay for $40 of fuel.
-- Oct. 6, 10:14 a.m. Police were called to investigate an assault against a man in Middleton.
-- Oct. 6, 10:37 a.m. A Hillsburn resident reported that they had received a suspicious business offer by mail from a Quebec company. The BBB and Phonebusters advise this to be a possible scam.
-- Oct. 6, 12:50 p.m. Police were notified about possible criminal harassment at Bridgetown Regional High School. The allegation is being investigated.
-- Oct. 6, 2:01 p.m. Police received a complaint that a man in Lequille was standing in the doorway of a residence exposing himself. Police investigated and concluded the matter did not warrant charges.
-- Oct. 6, 10:14 p.m. Police were called to Greenland to deal with a mentally unstable man. He was transported to hospital. Police repeated the same procedure with the same man less than 24 hours later.
-- Oct. 6, 11:52 p.m. Report of a loud party in Lequille resulted in the arrest of one man who was jailed overnight and charged under the Liquor Control Act.
-- Oct. 7, 1:48 a.m. Police were called to a domestic dispute in Middleton where a man was arrested and jailed. He was later released on an undertaking and appears in court on assault charges in November.
-- Oct. 7, 9:34 a.m. A Bridgetown resident reported a Canadian flag was stolen from their property overnight.
-- Oct. 7, 11:16 a.m. Theft of grapes in Paradise had the owner complaining that the incident ruined his Thanksgiving dinner – the grapes were supposed to be the meal’s centerpiece.
-- October 7, 11:57 a.m. A Bridgetown resident discovered a piece of firewood in their car – and a smashed window.
-- Oct. 7, 5:13 p.m. A Cornwallis resident discovered their vehicle badly damaged overnight. Windows, headlights, tail lights, and fenders had been smashed. Police have suspects and the investigation continues.
-- Oct. 7, 10:29 p.m. A parent reported their child had been bullied on the school bus in the Lawrencetown area. The investigation continues and police are working with school officials to resolve the matter.
-- Oct. 8, 11:57 a.m. A Lawrencetown resident reported that his camp had been damaged. The windows and doors had been smashed.
-- Oct. 8, 1:32 p.m. Police received a report that a canoe and paddles had been stolen in Carlton Corner. The canoe is reddish-orange in colour.
-- Oct. 8, 8:37 p.m. Police received a report that a fire had been set at the bus stop in Cornwallis. Bear River firefighters responded.
-- Oct. 9, 2:11 a.m. A Cornwallis resident reported the theft of a satellite dish. A neighbour got a license plate number and the investigation resulted in the arrest of a man. Charges are pending and the dish was recovered.
-- Oct. 9, 12:33 p.m. Police received reports of a suspicious man in green camouflage gear carrying a rifle. The man said he was hunting coyotes.
