Sissiboo Thanksgiving becomes a dual celebration

Weymouth Waterfront Development Committee hosted its second annual Sissiboo Thanksgiving in Weymouth on Saturday and with a dual purpose.
Committee chairman Rod LeFort said the Thanksgiving event was both a fundraiser for Sissiboo Landing and a community event to get people involved.
“This harvest celebration for the community took on a festive atmosphere and gave those attending a chance to socialize,” said LeFort.
Sissiboo Landing was the center for most of the day’s activities with a tractor trek along the old DAR railbed and a harvest supper at the historical building.
Highlighting the afternoon was a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the bandstand situated next to the center.
Digby-Annapolis MLA Harold Theriault and municipal councillor Randall Amero assisted Rod LeFort with the ribbon cutting.
Amero recalled that 10 years ago the waterfront project was just an idea, Weymouth had a nice waterfront with no development, he said.
“It is nice to see projects move forward,” said Amero. “There are more exciting projects in the planning stages for the waterfront. There was a nice turnout today and it is great to see the community support events such as this.”
Sissiboo Landing coordinator Jeanne Nesbit was delighted with the day’s events.
“People enjoyed the sunshine and a warm cup of cider as they listened to the musical entertainment at the bandstand,” said Nesbit. “The tractor trek was turning people away as all three rides were booked full and there was a good crowd for the harvest supper.”
Sissiboo Thanksgiving’s finale was a reading of Hal Theriault’s play on the Stehelin family of New France that is planned for production next summer.
