Recreational fishermen in this Newfoundland and Labrador will get another day on the water.
After complaining that poor weather hampered the last few days of the recreational cod fishery, federal fisheries officials decided to re-open the fishery for one day in the coming weekend.
Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn issued a statement last Saturday evening confirming the day-long extension on Oct. 18.
"After reviewing statistics from this year's recreational cod fishery, and in light of bad weather last Saturday, I have determined there is sufficient flexibility to authorize the re-opening of the fishery for one more day,” Hearn said in the statement.
During the one-day extension of the fishery, existing bag and vessel limits will remain in place.

This decision is about as stupid as stupid gets.
