Yarmouth town RCMP report
174 calls for service in two-week time span
From Sept. 22 to Oct. 5, the Yarmouth town RCMP detachment received 174 calls for service. The number of calls for service was up significantly over previous weeks and included the following: 13 mischief/property damage, two dangerous driving, 12 theft under $5,000, 10 causing a disturbance, two motor vehicle collisions, seven 911 misdials/hang-ups, 21 false alarms, three fraud investigations, three Mental Health Act investigations, four assaults, three shoplifting, two noise complaints, two drunk in a public place, one business break and enter, one theft of auto and 12 other Criminal Code.
The following is a summary of some of the calls for service.
•Sept. 22, 8:18 a.m., sometime overnight the side and back window of a company vehicle had been smashed at Germain Mechanical and Electrical on Water Street.
•Sept. 22, 9:43 a.m., Leisure Services reported that toilets had been smashed over the weekend in the washrooms at the Broad Brook recreation park.
•Sept 22, 12:34 p.m., received a complaint from the high school of dangerous driving. The report was that a white four-door car with white lettering on the back window was speeding in the parking lot and almost hit three students. A patrol was made. The vehicle was not located.
•Sept 23, 12:01, received a call of a vehicle squealing tires and speeding near Parade and Brunswick streets as students were getting out of school at lunchtime.
•Sept. 23, 4:41 p.m., request for assistance from the Yarmouth Fire Department. A truck carrying four propane tanks was on fire on Grand Street. The RCMP assisted with traffic control and the evacuation of a nearby apartment building.
•Sept. 25, 3:08 p.m., Canada Border Services had a U.S. citizen in custody for possession of cocaine at the ferry terminal. Man was released with a November court date.
•Sept. 25, 7:16 p.m., call from Pleasant Street reporting a trampoline had been cut and it legs broken.
•Sept. 26, 2:33 p.m., a cellphone was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Collins Street.
•Sept. 27, 11:52 p.m., received a report of a theft of a grey 21-speed Raleigh mountain bike on Prince Street.
•Sept. 28, 10:50 a.m., received a complaint of property damage on Church Street where a vehicle had two of its tires slashed.
•Sept. 28, 8:11 p.m., officers received a 911 call about a large sign blown over on Parade Street during hurricane Kyle. Officers removed the sign from the road.
•Sept. 29, 10:38 a.m., received a call of property damage to the Superstore lawn.
•Oct. 1, 2:21 a.m., officers responded to a mischief complaint on Water Street and found a man jumping up and down on a Global news truck. The windshield was damaged. Officers arrested the intoxicated man, charges are pending.
•Oct. 1, 12:56 p.m., officers responded to a call at the Yarmouth Junior High regarding a youth with a possible handgun. The gun turned out to be a plastic pellet gun and was seized by the officers.
•Oct. 2, 4:10 p.m., received a report of vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the east end of Herbert Street.
•Oct. 2, 8:39 a.m., a truck parked on Main Street near City Drug with the keys left in it was stolen. The vehicle was eventually located in Shelburne with charges pending against two youth.
•Oct. 4, 7:54 a.m., received a call of a break and enter at Pleasant Building Supplies on Pleasant Street.
•Oct. 4, 9:14 a.m., two youth bikes were found on Main Street. One is a black and yellow Huffy. The second bike is black. Anyone who can properly identify the bikes can contact the RCMP.
•Oct. 5, 1:27 a.m. fight in progress at the Irving station on Starrs Road.
•Oct. 5, 4:59 p.m., received a report that a little girl’s pink bike with a kickstand had been found.
