St. Mary’s Bay Academy senior girls’ soccer team dropped to 0-2 after a 7-3 loss to Clare in league action on Monday afternoon.
The SMBA Stingrays allowed four unanswered goals in the first half before Alicia Theriault drove through the Clare defense to put the visitors on the scoreboard.
“I was really excited when the ball hit the back of the net,” said Theriault. “I really wanted that goal.”
Clare’s Emma LeBlanc was strong on offence scoring twice for the home team.
Stingray’s coach Jodi Amon said the girls were not as aggressive first half but played a stronger second frame.
“The team didn’t play with the same aggressive style in the first half as they had done in their game against Digby last week.” said Amon. “They picked up their game second half, showed more drive and were stronger on defense.”
Amon said she is pleased with how the girls are playing as a team and is happy to have two senior students, Kyle and Chad Lombard, help out as assistant coaches.
“This is a young team and several players are just learning the game but they are keen to learn and eager to be on the field. The team has shown improvement this season and the boys are a great asset in assisting me coach.”
Alicia Theriault scored twice for SMBA with Renee Doucet adding one.
SMBA’s first loss came at the hands of the Lady Mariners in league action last Monday in Digby with a score of 6-0.
The Stingrays will play host to Annapolis Royal at 5:15 next Monday in their third league game.
Bridgetown travels to SMBA for the final league game at 5:00 on Tuesday.
