The Kings County Museum will host an evening of entertainment featuring the Stadacona Band and a silent auction at the Horton High School Performance Centre Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. as part of their ongoing fundraising efforts.
The Stadacona Band of Maritime Forces Atlantic is celebrating its 68th anniversary and often lends its talents to Maritime non-profit organizations. Over the years, the band has performed for the royal family, the prime minister and foreign heads of state.
At their Valley show, the band will perform songs from its “Memories From the Past” repertoire.
Preceding the concert there will be a silent auction highlighting products from local businesses, including a whale-watching trip, theme baskets and a dinner for two.
Admission to the event is a freewill donation.
“One thing I learned that stands out for me is realizing how significant community support is,” museum summer student Sarah Dunham said. “The reliance the museum and many other non-profit organizations has on community support is huge and whether the contribution be big or small, all of it comes together in the end, making for a wonderful final product that many community members are able to enjoy.”
The Kings County Museum, owned and operated by the Kings Historical Society, is a non-profit community-based museum and relies on volunteers to help in various sections of the museum, from greeting visitors to assisting genealogical research. The museum has been open to the public for over 25 years, however, for the past two years, the museum had to close from mid-December to mid-March due to the expense of operating during the winter. This was a huge loss to the community of Kings County as the museum runs programs for everyone, from kids to adults.
