Sissiboo Landing will be hosting its second annual Sissiboo Thanksgiving on Saturday, Oct. 11 with a day packed full of activities for the whole family.
The day begins at 11am with the opportunity to check out student’s Thanksgiving artwork and the first of three Tractor Trek rides from the Cricket Field out to Delaps Lake on the old DAR rail bed.
A corn boil at the Center will take place from 1-4pm with fall apples and apple cider on sale.
The grand opening of the Kiwanis Bandstand will highlight the day with the ribbon cutting ceremonies at 2pm. Music is being provided by Jeanne (Doucet) Currie and other local musicians.
After the beans and brown bread supper at the Historical building, Hal Theriault will read from his New France play at 7pm. Theriault is planning to have his play in full production by next summer.
Sissiboo Landing coordinator Jeanne Nesbit said the Thanksgiving event last year was very successful with many visiting the Center for the first time.
“A lot of people came out last year to see their child’s artwork and for some it was their first visit to Sissiboo Landing.” said Nesbit. “Sissiboo Landing is for visitors and local people alike.”
Many were taken by how well the Center was set up and the amount of historical information on display Nesbit added.
“An event such as this gives the community a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving by coming together in friendship. We are hoping this celebration will draw people from outside our area as well.”
