Free meditation classes starting in Queens
After the success of their first Sahaja Yoga meditation program in Liverpool, Mary Downey and her husband Marcel Kuhn will start a second program in October.
The first class took place last March. “It was suppose to be in the community room of the Superstore and it was packed,” said Downey. “People couldn’t fit so we moved to the high school.”

About 55 people attended the first class.

The next class starts Oct. 14 and continues every Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Liverpool Regional High School Library.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation is “taught now in over 90 countries all over the world,” she noted.

An Indian woman named Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi founded this type of meditation.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation is not a physical yoga. People can come to the class directly from work, or wear sweats, but “we just sit in chairs,” said Downey.

This form of meditation helps achieve a greater balance.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation addresses stress, worrying and other issues to find a balance in the person’s life.

“There’s nice health benefits as well,” she noted.

A few people who had headaches have told Downey the headaches had gone away.

Downey and her husband also teach Sahaja Yoga Meditation classes in Halifax every Friday.

She will teach a “mom and me meditation... for any mom or caregiver who stays with the children at home.”

It will be for children aged zero to five and will take place at the Lunenburg library.

The first class starts Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“The reason why I’m getting into this mom and me meditation is because we have always included our son, who’s now two and now he himself will sit and quiet down in the morning and also at night,” explained Downey.

Those who want to take part in the Sahaja Yoga Meditation classes in Oct. can just show up and the classes are free.

“We had a great turnout last time and we’re expecting another great turnout,” she added.

Returning mediators are welcome and Downey said it will not be too repetitive.

Downey and Kuhn each have over 10 years of experience in Sahaja Yoga Meditation.

So nice. Sahajayoga is very wonderful and exclusive technique of meditation and helps enourmously to achieve emotional and physical balance. I hope people from Queens will take benefit of it.
