Horton girls win NSSAF golf provincials

Horton High School has captured the NSSAF provincial girls’ golf title for a fourth consecutive year.
At the provincial competition Sept. 29 in Truro, Jill Redden shot a 92 and Lindsay Harris a 98 for a team score of 192, 20 strokes ahead of runner-up Sackville and 26 up on third-place Amherst.
For a second straight year, Brynn Tomie of C.P. Allen High School in Bedford had the low individual girls’ score at provincials with a 91.
On the boys’ side, Cobequid Education Centre scored an easy victory in the team competition. Robert Jeffcock, Alex Works, Eric Banks andCraig Dale combined for a 300 score, good for a 20-stroke victory over runner-up Dr. J.H. Gillis.
The West Kings team of Chad MacMillan, Corey Marcotte, Sean Letourneau and Colton Parsons placed third overall with a 328 score.
Provincial junior boys’ champion Eric Locke of Digby was the boys’ individual gold medalist after shooting a three-under par 68.
At the Western Region championships the previous week in Bridgewater, Digby won the boys’ team title with a 321 score, with NKEC second at 333, West Kings third at 336 and Horton, the defending champions, relegated to fourth place at 343.
In the individual standings, Locke had the low score with a 70, followed by Ally Tidcombe of Horton at 75. Koty Nesbitt of Digby was third at 76, with Chad MacMillan of West Kings fourth at 77 and Xavier Foley of NKEC fifth at 79.
On the girls’ side, Horton easily won the regional title with a team score of 175. Lindsay Harris had the low individual score with an 85, while Jill Redden shot a 90.
West Kings (Jennifer Poirier and Stephanie Scott) was second at 245, Annapolis West (Tabitha Hoyt and Annie Wright) third at 249, NKEC (Brandi Ward and Kristy Edwards) fourth at 255, Ecole Par en Bas fifth at 266 and Park View sixth at 277.
Individually, Harris’s 85 was the low score, with Redden’s 90 good for second. Brandi Ward of NKEC was third at 97 as only three girls had scores under 100. Jennifer Poirier of West Kings was fourth at 111 and Tabitha Hoyt of AWEC fifth at 120.
