New facility gives residents better access to staff, commission
The Village of Lawrencetown is open for business.

Residents of Annapolis County’s only village had the opportunity Saturday to check out the community’s new office and meet village commissioners and staff during an afternoon open house.

“This marks the beginning of great things to come,” said commission chair Troy Emmett. “People of the village now have the opportunity to drop by to talk, voice concerns, request service, and pay their water bills.”

Construction of the office began this spring and almost all the work was completed by public works supervisor David Leonard and assistant Jeff Hannam. Space in the back of the public works building on Prince Street was renovated for the office, home to new village clerk Kelly Rice who took up her duties this summer.

Former clerk Dene Marshall, who retired from the position at the end of June, was on hand to cut the official Lawrencetown cake which noted the village’s incorporation in 1953. Marshall was also presented with flowers and a gift for her many years of service.

Former village commissioner Gary Marshall also dropped by, as did village residents curious to see the new facilities.

Lawrencetown Village Commission meets the first Monday of each month at the Library. The new office allows residents day-to-day contact with village staff between meetings, and an adjacent boardroom provides space for working meetings and other functions.

Office hours are Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
