News about the fire service in Yarmouth town and county
PROPANE FIRE
What could have been did not occur as the time of day and the quick response of YFD Engine 4 prevented a possible propane gas explosion. A small truck parked in a Grand Street parking lot with four propane cylinders aboard caught fire. A foam line was extended to a safe distance, covering the flames which had enveloped the rear portion of the truck. As the foam smothered the flames, another hose line was advanced to cool down the tanks as the fires burned themselves out. The 4:41 p.m. fire kept the pumper and crew on scene for several hours. No immediate cause was determined. Main Street was blocked off from Parade Street to King Street as well as Grand Street and Ryerson Court.
