Nova Scotia Power crews restoring electricity after Kyle

In the wake of hurricane/tropical storm Kyle, Nova Scotia Power crews are continuing to restore electricity for customers.

Overnight, the company has restored power for more than 40,000 customers in Yarmouth County, Halifax Regional Municipality, Lunenburg County, Queens County, Digby County, Annapolis County, Colchester County, Cumberland County, Yarmouth County and Pictou County. High winds, heavy rains and, in many cases, trees and branches falling into power lines caused outages late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

More than 100 Nova Scotia Power crews were deployed early this morning. As of 5:15 a.m., about 9,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were without service, primarily in the following communities:



* Shelburne County

* Queens County

* Kings County

* Lunenburg County

* Pictou County

* Guysborough County

* Colchester County

* Halifax Regional Municipality

The three largest outages are in the Greenwood, Bass River and Canso areas.

“We regret that some of our customers are waking up this morning to find their homes are without electricity, but Nova Scotia Power employees are focused on restoring power safely and as quickly as possible,” said Alan Richardson, Nova Scotia Power’s storm lead.

“We would also like to remind Nova Scotians about the importance of safety – for example, people should let our crews deal with downed power lines and debris,” said Richardson.
