Queens residents nominated for music awards
Queens Co. musicians and music industry professionals have once again been nominated for various Nova Scotia Music Week awards.
Nova Scotia Music Week, after spending two years in Liverpool, is being held Nov. 6-9 in New Glasgow, Pictou Co. this year.
Tim Feswick, of Feswick Productions, has been nominated as Producer of the Year and Studio Engineer of the Year and his Broad River studio has been nominated as Recording Studio of the Year.
He said, when advised for the first time, “My thing is pleasing the client, making the best CDs I can and making their dreams come true. That’s what is satisfying to me, watching them walk away with a smile on their face or a tear in the eye because their dreams are coming true.”
And then he laughed. “But it is nice to be nominated. It’s exciting.”
His clients have ranged from the Crash Test Dummies, J.P. Cormier and Liverpool’s favourite band, Faded Blue to the Sons of Maxwell, Dr. Hook and Kim Stockwood, to name just some performers listed on his web site. He expects to attend.
SouthWind has been nominated in two categories, which are Country/Bluegrass Artist/Group Recording and Inspirational Artist/Group Recording for The Sun Always Rises.
SouthWind is a country/gospel/bluegrass group with experience at variety shows and exhibitions throughout Nova Scotia. The group, which was also nominated last year, consists of Dianne Tipert from Oak Hill in the Bridgewater area, (autoharp, lead vocals and harmony), Florence Morton from Liverpool (rhythm guitar, lead vocals and harmony), Reg Coolen from Mersey Point in the Liverpool area (fiddle, mandolin, and harmony) and Al Butler from Lower Sackville (vocals, harmony, standup bass and dobro). Individually, these musicians have been performing on stage for many years.
The historic Astor Theatre has been nominated in the Venue of the Year category.
Another Liverpool venue, which is now closed, has also been nominated. The Mersey House, which won the award last year, is nominated in the Venue of the Year category while co-owner Michael Loveridge has been nominated as Booking Agent of the Year.
