A mother and child are safe after being rescued from their burning van in East Jordan last Wednesday night.
Chastity Enslow and three year old daughter Emma were on their way from Shelburne to Lockeport at about 7 p.m. when the van lost control, ended up in a northbound ditch, hit a concrete block and burst into flames.
Trapped inside the burning vehicle, the two were rescued “as a result of quick action by police, civilian and volunteer firefighters,” said Shelburne RCMP Constable Sandy Paris.
Both were taken to Roseway Hospital. The child was treated for minor injuries and released. Enslow, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, was transported to Halifax hospital where she has undergone surgery to repair her ankle and is still recuperating, said Cst. Paris.
The dog was not injured.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by Western Traffic Services. Highway 3 East Jordan was closed for several hours following the accident.
