Active for Life program begins

The Region of Queens Municipality wants to help you stay active this winter.
On September 22 the Region’s Active For Life Program will kick off 7 p.m. at the Trinity Parish Hall in Liverpool, and is sponsored by Reynolds PharmaChoice in Liverpool and Medicine Cabinet PharmaChoice in Caledonia.

“It’s a nice way to keep yourself motivated and to feel like you’re part of a group,” says Heather Cook, Community and Development Coordinator with the Region of Queens.

Participants in the program receive a calendar for each month to record their progress each day. They sign up for a daily exercise goal of 10, 20, 30, or 40 minutes a day, to help keep them motivated.

“A lot of people find the calendars are helpful. People have said that knowing you are just part of a group is helpful too, ” says Cook.

It isn’t all about weight loss, however.

“It’s more about being healthy and making healthy choices in your life, and building some physical activity into your life,” she says.

Active for Life runs from Oct. 1 to March 31, with events and activities going on throughout those months to help people live a healthier and active lifestyle.

Residents of Liverpool and Caledonia will see the events come to their town. In Jan. both areas will have a physical activity demonstration and information on healthy eating. In Feb. there will be a talk on health related topics.

Newsletters will also be published along the way to keep people informed about events and tips on keeping healthy.

At the end of the program in April, another event is planned to celebrate success and hand out prizes to participants.
