Region of Queens Municipal Council fully endorsed the idea of constructing a new junior high school on Sept. 15.
In a letter to Education Minister Karen Casey, Mayor John Leefe said that council took the time to consider the project.
“At the end of the day, council decided to support construction of a new school and passed a supporting resolution,” Mayor Leefe says in the letter.
The South Shore Regional School Board made the decision to seek approval for a new school during their June 19, 2008 meeting.
South Queens Junior High School was originally going to be renovated, but it was decided that the school had deteriorated to the point where a new school would be more cost effective.
